19 Nov Kate and Jon’s Melbourne wedding
The love story that led to the Melbourne wedding of Kate and Jon is truly one to tell the grandkids! Friends of friends that never quite met, their paths finally crossed – literally across the oceans – and then COVID hit. Forced into lockdown together in the city of lockdowns – Melbourne – their relationship became a ‘make or break’ situation. Happily, it was the making of an enduring love story. It therefore seemed fitting that they should host their wedding ceremony in the city that sealed their fate. As the mother-in-law of the bride’s brother I was privileged to be chosen as Kate and Jon’s celebrant!
What I loved most about this Melbourne wedding ceremony
Kate and Jon chose to marry in a location that truly reflected their personalities and aesthetic. A restored warehouse in the inner-city suburb of Collingwood that also happens to be a well-regarded restaurant perfectly aligned to this professional couple in the throes of creating their own inner-urban oasis. Rupert on Rupert did not disappoint, with moody interiors, festooned in festive, summery blooms, and a menu that showcased the best that this culinary capital has to offer. Both the ceremony and reception took place in the same venue, with the couple sneaking out in-between to take insta-worthy photos in the surrounding graffiti-strewn laneways. Oh so Melbourne!
Apart from the decor and the food, what I loved most about this Melbourne wedding ceremony was:
- Family is central to Kate and Jon so the fact that Jon’s extended family of parents, siblings, nieces and nephews flew all the way from England to be part of the celebrations, was not only a logistical feat, but also a testament to their strong family ties
- No surprises then that the ceremony was very emotional! Children were central to the day, and provided the necessary light relief, on cue, when the tears started to flow…
- Did I mention that the blast of orange, pink and cream flowers were amazing?
Some unique wedding ceremony touches
In a nod to gender equity, Kate and Jon decided to flip a coin to decide on their ‘married’ name. It was certainly a quirky and unique way to introduce the newly married couple. And in case you’re wondering, Jon was ‘anointed’ as the newly minted Mr Scott.
What made the wedding ceremony extra personal
Kate and Jon prepared personal vows, which is always so special and touching. Although Jon struggled to hold back the tears, he made it through his heartfelt words, while the guests unashamedly let their emotions flow!
The wedding ceremony – in the couple’s own words…
“Maria was particularly wonderful in personalising and shaping our ceremony to suit us and our day perfectly. We felt well supported with suggestions and ideas for all the exciting and personally meaningful decisions, and sheltered from the more mundane logistics and organisational aspects, which she thoughtfully handled behind the scenes. This made the process stress free for us, and her attention to detail gave the ceremony a level of polish we had not expected! She also looks fabulous in all our pictures.”
