06 Nov Jack and Julia’s Brisbane wedding
As floods threatened to derail this art-inspired wedding, the good people at Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA)/Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) in Brisbane made magic happen! A swift venue change for the ceremony to the GOMA roof-top with the reception going ahead as planned in the QAG Water Mall meant the couple could have the Brisbane wedding of their dreams.
What I loved most about this Brisbane wedding ceremony
As step-mother to the groom, it was a special ceremony for that reason alone. I have known both Jack and Julia for many years so it was a privilege to marry them!
Apart from the familial connection, I also loved:
- Julia is an artist – @juliasirianni – so it was very fitting for her to marry in an art gallery. Jack is also a lover of fine things, so the venue suited them both perfectly!
- When you marry in an art gallery, you have to ‘go with the flow’ when it comes to the art that will be hanging around you. As it turned out, the complexities of marrying in a public building, this one being close to the river, can also make planning interesting! Despite the last-minute curve balls, they both handled it so calmly (at least on the outside) and worked together with the venue and their suppliers to create the perfect day for them and their guests
Some unique wedding ceremony touches
Their nephew, also Jack, was a gorgeous and very capable ring bearer, much to the delight of guests (as well as his mum and dad!).
I always encourage my couples to write personal vows, and Julia and Jack decided to write theirs together, which was a beautiful way of expressing their love for one another in a way that was sure to be meaningful for both of them. And, no surprises!
What made the wedding ceremony extra personal
As Julia’s dad had passed some years before, her mum, Josie, walked her down the aisle, which was very moving. Both Josie and Jack’s mum, Susan, were the witnesses, which was a lovely way to involve these special people in the ceremony. Jack and Julia also kept their bridal party very personal and simple – consisting of a couple of very close friends.
The wedding ceremony – in the couple’s own words…
“Maria you were so wonderful to work with and were a big part of creating our dream ceremony. Your patience and ability to make us feel comfortable when we were a bit nervous about saying the right thing was exactly what we needed. Reading the preview of your speech brought us to tears because of how well you captured everything about us as a
couple. It was a perfect ceremony and everything went so smoothly because of your planning and direction. We were very nervous on the day but that all melted away once we were up there!
There were so many little details we hadn’t thought of in the lead up to the day and we are very lucky to have had your help on these! So many of our friends and family have commented on how amazing our celebrant was and we would recommend you to anyone with a wedding coming up!”
And the team that made the dream wedding ceremony come true…
